PRESS RELEASE: Break In at Mejias Campaign Office
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Richmond – The campaign office of Alex Mejias (D-Richmond), Democratic primary challenger to four-term incumbent Del. Delores McQuinn (D-Richmond), was broken into last night. The office, located on N 25th St. and R St. in Church Hill, saw cash and a suitcase stolen, papers rifled through, and water damage from vandalized piping. A campaign spokesperson stated that sensitive campaign documents were among those papers, but that it was difficult to say what, if anything, had been taken from them.
Confirming the break in, Mejias added, “Although we were the only building targeted in the area, there’s no way to tell if this was politically motivated. This burglary will not stop my campaign from continuing to push for a stronger voice for the 70th District and a more equitable Virginia.”
Mejias announced his candidacy for the House of Delegates earlier this year. The Democratic primary will be held on June 13th.
Alex and his wife, Ashley, live in Church Hill with their three children, Belen, Maisy, and Yves. Alex attended UVA for his undergraduate and law degrees, and now works as a business strategist at local tech firm Foster Made. Prior to working at Foster Made, Mejias helped oversee some of the nation’s largest mass tort settlement programs as an attorney at BrownGreer. He is a founding member of the Business Coalition for Justice, a local advocacy group dedicated to promoting racial equity and criminal justice reform, and has served on the boards of Urban Hope and the Richmond Justice Initiative.
